1. A method for using broadband network resources, comprising:
- providing simultaneous access to an asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit for a plurality of sessions based on internet protocol session requests being received at a service gateway for the plurality of sessions, andtearing down the asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit when all of the sessions are terminated, wherein a plurality of service gateways are located in different geographical regions and access different directory servers which are loaded with asynchronous transfer mode network addresses for different geographical regions, thereby preventing service gateways in one region from launching asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuits to destinations in other regions.

Abstract
A method for using broadband network resources includes providing simultaneous access to an asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit for a plurality of sessions. The access for each session is provided based on an internet protocol session request being received at a service gateway for the sessions. The method also includes tearing down the asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit when all of the sessions are terminated.

17. A service gateway, comprising:
-
a first interface to an internet protocol network, and a second interface configured to provide simultaneous access to an asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit for a plurality of sessions based on internet protocol session requests being received for the plurality of sessions, wherein the asynchronous transfer mode switched victual circuit is torn down when all of the sessions are terminated, and wherein a plurality of service gateways are located in different geographical regions and access different directory servers which are loaded with asynchronous transfer mode network addresses for different geographical regions, thereby preventing service gateways in one region from launching asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuits to destinations in other regions.

18. A computer readable medium storing a computer program, comprising:
-
an access providing code segment that provides simultaneous access to an asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit for a plurality of sessions based on internet protocol session requests being received at a service gateway for the plurality of sessions, and a tearing down code segment that tears down the asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit when all of the sessions are terminated, wherein a plurality of service gateways are located in different geographical regions and access different directory servers which are loaded with asynchronous transfer mode network addresses for different geographical regions, thereby preventing service gateways in one region from launching asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuits to destinations in other regions.
