1. A consumable supply comprising:

  • a consumable material for use in forming a credential product selected from a group consisting of print ribbon cartridges, ink cartridges, substrates and overlaminate; and

    a programmable memory selectively encoded to indicate whether the consumable material can be consumed by a credential production device to form the credential product, wherein the consumable supply is usable with a credential production device when the memory indicates a production enabled state and is prevented from use with the credential production device when the memory indicates a production disabled state, the selective encoding of one of the production enabled state and the production disabled state being independent of an amount of consumable material in the consumable supply.
