1. A spinal implant for engagement between vertebrae, comprising:

  • at least two lateral spacers made of bone remnants, said lateral spacers each having opposite upper and lower vertebral engaging surfaces adapted to engage the vertebrae and opposite lateral and medial sides, said upper and lower vertebral engaging surfaces each including anti-migration structures comprising a plurality of ridges and grooves configured to limit movement of said lateral spacers in a disc space between the vertebrae, and wherein said medial sides each include a concave recess at least partially defined by at least a portion of a medullary canal wall, said concave recess extending from said upper vertebral engaging surface to said lower vertebral engaging surface and defining a medially-facing concave surface; and

    a separate connecting member connected to said medial sides to provide a multi-piece implant assembly, said connecting member including a portion positioned within an interior space between said medially-facing concave surfaces of said lateral spacers, said portion having upper and lower vertebral engaging surfaces and defining a central opening extending therethrough and opening onto each of said upper and lower vertebral engaging surfaces;

    a first coupling mechanism defined between said connecting member and a first of said lateral spacers, said first coupling mechanism comprising a first projecting portion engaged within a first recess;

    a second coupling mechanism defined between said connecting member and a second of said lateral spacers, said second coupling mechanism comprising a second projecting portion engaged within a second recess; and

    wherein said first and second coupling mechanisms interconnect said connecting member with said first and second lateral spacers to provide said multi-piece implant assembly.
