1. A calibration method for calibrating tones transmitted from a transmitter circuit to a receiver circuit during tone-based communications of data from the transmitter circuit to the receiver circuit, comprising:

  • at the receiver circuit, receiving a calibration tone that has a calibration tone frequency;

    at the receiver circuit, receiving a given tone other than the calibration tone that has a given tone frequency; and

    at the receiver circuit, calibrating the given tone using the received calibration tone, wherein the calibration tone and the given tone are received at different times, wherein when the given tone is being received, the calibration tone is not being received, and wherein calibrating the given tone using the received calibration tone comprises calculating a ratio of the given tone frequency to the calibration tone frequency to identify the data.
