1. A host computer-implemented method for initiating an auction, driven by demand-side interest for a domain name already registered to a current registrant, the method comprising the steps of:

  • identifying at least one entity indicating interest in a domain name, the entity indicating interest through the use of a remote computer communicating with the host computer;

    storing in the host computer a list of said entities indicating interest in the domain name;

    in the host computer, counting a number of said entities on the stored list in order to quantify a level of interest in the domain name;

    in the host computer, comparing the indicated level of interest in the domain name to a predetermined number of entities reflecting a threshold level of interest; and

    if the indicated interest at least equals the predetermined threshold interest, informing the registrant of the domain name of an auction potential represented by the number of said entities on the stored list by sending a communication from the host computer.
