Abstract

A treadmill test protocol is provided having a linearly increasing work rate profile achieved by increasing walking speed while simultaneously increasing treadmill inclination. Specifically, according to the protocol it is possible to use a test subject'"'"'s projected maximum end-test work rate to calculate a treadmill test protocol having a linear increase in walking speed and simultaneous curvilinear increase in treadmill grade so that when the test subject is tested according to the calculated protocol, the test result yields a work rate and oxygen uptake response with a linear slope.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

generating a plurality of treadmill test control data related to a predicted peak work rate for a test subject of a treadmill test over a total test time prior to beginning the treadmill test, wherein when executed, the plurality of treadmill test data causes;

a change in treadmill work rate with respect to time for the total test time based on;

a change in treadmill speed with respect to time for the total test time, and

a change in treadmill angle of inclination with respect to time for the total test time,

wherein the change in treadmill angle of inclination models a non-linear, increase in an angle of inclination with respect to time.

2. A method comprising:

generating a plurality of treadmill test control data related to a predicted peak work rate for a test subject of a treadmill test over a total test time prior to beginning the treadmill test, wherein when executed, the plurality of treadmill test data causes;

a change in treadmill work rate with respect to time for the total test time based on;

a change in treadmill speed with respect to time for the total test time, and

a change in treadmill angle of inclination with respect to time for the total test time,

wherein generating a plurality of treadmill test control data comprises determining at least one of a weight for the test subject, a height for the test subject, an age for the test subject, a gender for the test subject, a fitness level for the test subject, a predicted peak work rate for the test subject, an initial angle of inclination for the treadmill test, an initial speed for the treadmill test, a total test time for the treadmill test, and a maximum speed for the treadmill test.

The method of claim 2, further comprising predicting the predicted peak work rate for the test subject based on at least one of the weight for the test subject, the height for the test subject, the age for the test subject, the gender for the test subject, and the fitness level for the test subject.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the change in treadmill speed and the change in treadmill angle of inclination depend on the initial angle of inclination for the treadmill test, the total test time for the treadmill test, and the maximum speed for the treadmill test.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the change in treadmill angle of inclination with respect to time is inversely proportional over time to the quotient of the maximum speed for the treadmill test divided by the initial speed for the treadmill test.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the change in treadmill angle of inclination with respect to time is proportional over time to the predicted peak work rate divided by the product of the weight of the test subject and the initial speed of the treadmill test.
