1. A device for occluding blood flow comprising:
- a first arm having a proximal end, a distal end with a first clamping surface, and a first ligature guide extending between the proximal end and said first clamping surface;
a second arm having a proximal end, a distal end with a second clamping surface, and a second ligature guide extending between the proximal end and said second clamping surface;
said first and second arms being pivotally connected together for moving between an open position and a closed position in which said first and second clamping surfaces oppose one another and distal ends of said first and second ligature guides are in alignment for forming a ligature guide pathway,at least one of said arms having a tissue receiving recess located proximal to said first and second clamping surfaces; and
at least one blood flow sensor provided at the distal end of at least one of said arms, wherein said at least one blood flow sensor is proximal to the distal ends of said first and second ligature guides and distal to said tissue receiving recess.

Abstract
A compression and ligation device includes a pair of jaws including one or more Doppler chips oriented to send and receive Doppler signals across the jaws, to assist a practitioner in determining whether or not a uterine artery is between the jaws. A suture leader with an attached suture can be pushed through a channel on one of the jaws, through tissue behind the uterine artery, into another channel on the other jaw, and proximally out the device so that the practitioner can ligate the artery and effect hemostasis.

21. A device for occluding blood flow through a vessel comprising:
-
first and second arms pivotally joined together, each said arm having a proximal end, a distal end with a clamping surface, and a ligature guide extending over said arm between the proximal end and said clamping surface; said arms defining a tissue receiving surface therebetween that is proximal to the clamping surfaces; at least one blood flow sensor provided at the distal end of one of said arms and being disposed proximal to distal ends of said ligature guides and distal to the tissue receiving recess; and a suture leader extendable through a ligature guide path defined by said ligature guides on said first and second arms, said suture leader having a length that is greater than the combined length of said ligature guides on said first and second arms. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23)
