1. An instrument for use in hip arthroplasty, comprising:

  • a main body;

    an impaction body attached to an end of said main body and positionable inside the hip of a patient, said impaction body having an axis coaxial with an impaction axis, a leading end of said impaction body configured to selectively engage an acetabular shell for use during impaction of the shell, said impaction body including an angled sleeve having a bore therethrough;

    an acetabular shell engaged to said impaction body for use in impacting the acetabular shell into an acetabulum of a patient;

    an arm extending from said main body and having a guide ring at an end thereof, said guide ring having an axis coaxial with said impaction axis;

    a removable trocar, wherein said trocar is used to puncture the patient'"'"'s skin and make a path through the underlying soft tissue for insertion of said impacting instrument, wherein to puncture said skin, said trocar is inserted through said guide ring of said arm and along said impaction axis; and

    a removable impacting instrument.
