1. An intramedullary fixation device comprising:

  • an intramedullary nail having an opening for receiving a screw, the opening comprising a first portion on a first side of a cannulation through the intramedullary nail and a second portion on an opposing side of the cannulation, the first portion of the opening comprising an intermittent groove; and

    an insert incorporated into the first portion of the opening, the insert comprising a hollow portion and a circumferential rib around an outer surface of the insert, the circumferential rib interacting with the intermittent groove of the first portion of the opening to secure the insert within the opening of the intramedullary nail and prevent the insert from moving and rotating during insertion of the screw into the opening.
