1. A device for closing an aperture in a vessel wall, the aperture having an external opening in an external region of the vessel wall and an internal opening in an internal region of the vessel wall, the device comprising:

  • an elongated member having a longitudinal axis and positionable inside the vessel against the internal opening of the aperture, the elongated member having a dimension to prevent egress of fluid through the aperture, the elongated member movable between a first position for delivery and a transverse position for placement, in the placement position the elongated member having an upper surface positioned adjacent the aperture; and

    a material forming first and second curved legs having ends positionable external of the vessel, the legs curving in different directions and extending toward an upper surface of the elongated member, and a retention portion formed in the material to retain the legs in an elongate position during placement of the elongated member inside the vessel, the retention portion formed by a first notch in the first leg and a second notch in the second leg, the first and second notches configured and dimensioned to receive a retaining component of a pusher.
