1. A method for switching between a first operating mode and a second operating mode of a target control device connected to a data bus, the method comprising:

  • activating the target control device;

    generating, using a test device, a predefined signal to be transmitted on the data bus, the predefined signal having a predefined frequency and a predefined pulse-duty factor; and

    switching from the first operating mode of the target control device to the second operating mode of the target control device in response to the target control device detecting the predefined signal transmitted on the data bus;

    wherein the predefined signal is changed if at least one other control device is active and coupled to the data bus, whereby the predefined signal is not detected by the target control device and the switching to the second operating mode of the target control device does not occur.
