1. A method comprising:

  • presenting on a display at least one view of a representation of an implantable lead having a complex electrode array geometry;

    receiving user input defining a stimulation field on the representation of the lead;

    selecting at least one predefined volumetric stimulation template from a memory based on the stimulation field, wherein the at least one volumetric stimulation template is stored in the memory prior to receiving user input defining the stimulation field; and

    selecting an electrical stimulation parameter set associated with the selected volumetric stimulation template in the memory.
