1. A computer-implemented method for selecting displayed text, comprising the steps of:
- (1) receiving an input upon a display surface of a display device, wherein the display device displays text;
(2) determining an amount of pressure applied by the input;
(3) responsive to the amount of pressure being at a first level, selecting a single word within the text; and
(4) responsive to the amount of pressure being at a second level greater than the first level, selecting a sentence in which the single word occurs within the text.

Abstract
The use of pressure-sensitive selection tools in a graphical user interface is disclosed in which the amount of pressure during a selection operation may modify selection behavior. Upon receiving a selection input, the pressure applied is determined and the selection behavior modified. In some embodiments, the number of objects selected is increased when more pressure is applied and decreased when less pressure is applied.

8. A computer-implemented method for selecting displayed items, comprising the steps of:
-
(1) receiving a selection input from a pressure-sensitive pointing device that selects a portion of a graphical user interface in which a word is displayed; (2) determining a level of applied pressure of the selection input; and (3) selecting a grammatical unit of text based on the level of applied pressure received, wherein the grammatical unit of text includes one or more of the word, a sentence in which the word occurs, and a paragraph in which the word occurs. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)
