User-based health monitoring
First Claim
1. A method of monitoring health-related information of a user, comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing at least one subsystem to the user, the subsystem including;
(i) at least one display;
(ii) a plurality of units, wherein a first unit of said plurality of units comprises a microprocessor and a memory, said memory further comprising an updatable removable inserted program cartridge; and
(iii) a second unit of the plurality of units, the second unit comprising a monitoring device connected to the first unit through a first communication channel;
(b) communicating between the first unit and the second unit through the first communication channel;
(c) executing program instructions to(i) generate monitoring related information on the display and(ii) facilitate collection of user-related data in response to the monitoring related information;
(d) connecting to at least one server remotely located from the subsystem;
(e) communicating between the server and the subsystem through a second communication channel to receive and deliver signal communications;
(f) providing at least one computer remotely located from and in communication with the server for use by an individual authorized to access said server;
(g) receiving at the server the user-related data collected by the subsystem;
(h) communicating between the authorized individual and the server in connection with the collected user-related data; and
(i) communicating data from the computer to the subsystem via the server;
(j) generating condition trends of the user based on the communicated data.

Abstract
A user-based monitoring system includes a remote user-based subsystem with at least one display and at least two microprocessor-based units in communication with each other. The microprocessor-based units are selected from a data management unit, a personal computer, a handheld device or a user monitoring device. The subsystem is configured to facilitate collection of user-related data. The system also has at least one central server remotely located from and configured for two-way communication with the user-based subsystem so that it can receive and deliver signal communications to and from the user-based subsystem. The system also has at least one authorized user computer remotely located from, and configured for two-way signal communication with, the central server to receive user-related data collected by a remote user-based subsystem and allow an authorized user to communicate with the central server. The system is suited, amongst others, for monitoring remotely the health of a system user.
