1. A method in a computerized healthcare environment for determining whether a supply item is associated with one or more task items for a patient, the method comprising:

  • receiving a patient identifier to identify a patient;

    accessing patient data from the patient'"'"'s electronic medical record;

    receiving a scanned medical supply item identifier identifying a non-pharmaceutical medical supply item;

    accessing data for the scanned supply item;

    utilizing the supply item data and patient data to determine whether one or more task items for the patient are associated with the scanned supply item, wherein the one or more task items are to be performed by a caregiver;

    if no task items for the patient are associated with the scanned supply item, presenting a display that prompts the caregiver to create a healthcare order, for the patient, that uses the scanned supply item; and

    receiving the healthcare order from the caregiver.
