1. A labeling apparatus comprising a source of printed labels, the labels having a first surface and a second surface with an adhesive applied to the second surface, the labeling apparatus further comprising a vacuum pickup having two opposable arms, each arm rotatable about the same substantially fixed axis, each arm defining a label-engaging surface that is fixed relative to the arm and that is engageable with the first surface of a label in a pickup position, each arm having its own vacuum head in communication with the respective label-engaging surface of each arm such that each label-engaging surface is removably attachable to a respective end portion of said label, the opposable arms sized and configured to surround a container in a wrap position such that the label-engaging surfaces abut each other with the end portions of the label sandwiched between the label-engaging surfaces such that the second surface of the end portions of the label are secured to each other.
