1. A method in a computer system for mapping identifiers, the method comprising:

  • receiving a first identifier from a first application, wherein the first identifier identifies a record of a first database that is accessible by the first application;

    generating a common identifier for the received first identifier;

    mapping the received first identifier to the common identifier;

    transmitting the record to a second application;

    receiving a second identifier from the second application in response to transmitting the record to the second application, wherein the second identifier identifies the record after it is stored in a second database that is accessible by the second application, wherein the first and second applications are distinct from each other; and

    mapping the received second identifier to the common identifier.
