1. An ultrasonic coagulation and cutting apparatus comprising:

  • an ultrasonic transducer for converting electric signals into ultrasonic vibrations to perform a treatment using ultrasonic vibrations on body tissue;

    a conductive probe which has a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end being connected to the ultrasonic transducer in order to transmit ultrasonic vibrations generated by the ultrasonic transducer to the distal end, and which is electrically connected to a high frequency power supply for generating high frequency current; and

    a gripping member configured to be movable closer to and farther away from the distal end of the probe, and capable of gripping the body tissue between it and the distal end of the probe,wherein the gripping member includes;

    a first contact portion configured by a conductive member, the first contact portion being electrically connected to the high frequency power supply that generates the high frequency current, for contacting the body tissue for performing treatment with the high frequency current, anda second contact portion configured by an insulating material, for contacting the body tissue for performing treatment with the ultrasonic vibrations, andwherein the second contact portion is provided at a position of the gripping member opposed to the probe, and the first contact portion is provided on both sides of the second contact portion and projected further toward the probe than the second contact portion.
