Medical article anchoring system
First Claim
1. An anchoring system for securing a medical article to a body of a patient, the anchoring system comprising:
- a first fitting attached to the medical article, having a first configuration including a first pair of wings, each wing extending laterally beyond a body of the medical article;
a second fitting attached to the medical article, having a second configuration that differs from the first configuration and including a second pair of wings, each wing extending laterally beyond a body of the medical article, the second fitting being spaced apart from the first fitting; and
a securement device including;
a mounting surface for attaching the securement device to the patient'"'"'s body; and
a receiving area oriented so as to face away from the patient'"'"'s body, the receiving area including a plurality of retainer mechanisms, at least one of the retainer mechanisms being configured to engage the first fining and at least another of the retainer mechanisms being configured to engage the second fitting.

Abstract
An anchoring system provides secure attachment between a portion of a medical article and a body of a patient. The anchoring system comprises a securement device and a first fitting attached to the medical article, the first fitting having a first configuration. Embodiments of the anchoring system also comprise a second fitting attached to the medical article. The second fitting has a second configuration that differs from the first. The securement device includes a mounting surface for attaching the securement device to the patient'"'"'s body and a receiving area. The receiving area is oriented so as to face away from the patient'"'"'s body, and includes retainer mechanisms that are capable of engaging one or both of the first and second fittings, which have different configurations.

9. An anchoring system for securing a medical article to a body of a patient, the anchoring system comprising:
-
a first fitting attached to the medical article, the first fitting extending laterally beyond the medical article, having a narrower longitudinal width in a connecting region proximate to the medical article and having a plurality of holes disposed on a wing region proximate to a lateral end; a second fitting attached to the medical article and including a pair of wings, the second fitting being spaced from the first fitting along a longitudinal axis, each wing of the second fitting extending laterally beyond the medical article, and having a lateral width that is narrower than the lateral width of the wing region of the first fitting and is wider than the lateral width of the connection region of the first fitting; and a securement device including; a mounting surface for attaching the securement device to the patient'"'"'s body; a receiving area oriented so as to face away from the patient'"'"'s body, the receiving area including a plurality of posts extending through the plurality of holes of the first fitting, a plurality of clips configured to engage the second fitting but not to engage the first fitting, and at least one cover, the cover being movably connected to the securement device so as to move between an open position and a closed position, the cover lying at least partially above at least one of the plurality of posts in the closed position. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12)

13. An anchoring system for securing a medical article to a body of a patient, the anchoring system comprising:
-
at least two fittings attached to the medical article and being spaced apart along a longitudinal axis, each fitting including at least one wing extending laterally beyond the medical article; and a securement device including; a mounting surface for attaching the securement device to the patient'"'"'s body; a receiving area oriented so as to face away from the patient'"'"'s body, the receiving area including a first securement means for engaging a first fitting of the plurality of fittings and a second securement means for engaging a second fitting of the plurality of fittings independent of the first fitting. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16)

17. A method of securing a medical article to a body of a patient, the method comprising:
-
providing a securement device having a mounting surface for attaching the securement device to the patient'"'"'s body, and a receiving area oriented so as to face away from the patient'"'"'s body, the receiving area including a first securement mechanism and a second securement mechanism; selecting one of the first securement mechanism and second securement mechanism as a function of a medical article insertion site; engaging the selected one of the first securement mechanism and second securement mechanism with a selected one of two fittings attached to the medical article independent of the unselected one of the first securement mechanism and second securement mechanism, the two fittings being spaced apart along a longitudinal axis, each of the two fittings including at least one wing extending laterally beyond the medical article; and securing the securement device to the body of the patient using the mounting surface.
