Powerhead of a power injection system
First Claim
1. A contrast media injector system comprising:
- a powerhead including a syringe ram and a drive mechanism coupled with the syringe ram;
a faceplate removably mounted to the powerhead, wherein the faceplate has an open condition and a closed condition; and
circuitry configured to control the drive mechanism to move the syringe ram relative to the faceplate to effect an injection of a contrast media into a patient, the circuitry including programming for moving the syringe ram to a first position that prevents removal of the faceplate from the powerhead, wherein the programming of the circuitry is further configured to permit selective movement of the syringe ram to a second position that permits removal of the faceplate from and attachment of the faceplate to the powerhead, wherein the programming is further configured to prevent movement of the syringe ram from the first position to the second position while the faceplate is in the closed condition, and wherein the programming is further configured to allow movement of the syringe ram from the first position to the second position while the faceplate is in the open condition.

Abstract
A contrast media injection system includes detects the absolute position of the syringe ram using a non-contact sensor. A series of magnets and Hall-Effect sensors may be used or an opto-reflective system. Illuminated knobs that are connected to the drive mechanism for the syringe ram rotate with the drive and provide visual feedback on operation through the illumination. Analog Hall-Effect sensors are used to determine the presence or absence of magnets that identify the type of faceplate being used. The faceplates include control electronics, connected to the powerhead through connectors, which may be interchangeably used by the two faceplates. The faceplate electronics include detectors for automatically detecting the capacity of pre-filled syringes. Additional features include using historical data to provide optimum pressure limit values during an injection protocol, a removable memory device for storing and transferring information such as injection protocols and injector statistics, and password protection of such protocols.

9. A method of operating a contrast media injector system that includes a powerhead with a syringe ram and a faceplate having an open condition and a closed condition, where the faceplate is configured to removably mount a syringe to the powerhead, the method comprising:
-
selectively moving the syringe ram of the powerhead relative to the faceplate from a second position into a first position, wherein the second position permits removal of the faceplate from and attachment of the faceplate to the powerhead and the first position prevents removal of the faceplate from the powerhead; moving the faceplate from the closed condition to the open condition and while the syringe ram is in the first position; selectively moving the syringe ram of the powerhead relative to the faceplate from the first position to the second position, after the moving the faceplate, and while the faceplate is maintained in the open condition; and prohibiting movement of the syringe ram from the first position to the second position while the faceplate is in the closed condition. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A contrast media injector system comprising:
-
a powerhead including a syringe ram and a drive mechanism coupled with the syringe ram; a faceplate removably mounted to the powerhead, wherein the faceplate has an open condition and a closed condition, wherein disposing the faceplate in the open condition allows an associated syringe to be removed from the powerhead, and wherein disposing the faceplate in the closed condition couples a corresponding syringe to the syringe ram; and circuitry configured to control the drive mechanism to move the syringe ram relative to the faceplate to effect an injection of a contrast media into a patient, including moving the syringe ram to a first position that prevents removal of the faceplate from the powerhead, and wherein the circuitry is further configured to permit selective movement of the syringe ram to a second position that permits removal of the faceplate from and attachment of the faceplate to the powerhead, and wherein when the syringe ram is in the first position, the faceplate is moveable between the open condition and the closed condition.
