1. A computer-implemented method in a computer system of improving ranking results for a data crawl, the method comprising:
- selecting, at a processor associated with a computer system, an attribute to be used in adjusting the ranking results for a query;
running, using the processor, a query against at least one data source and generating a set of query results, each query result having a relevancy score relating to the query;
adjusting, using the processor, the relevancy scores of the query results based on the selected attribute; and
returning, using the processor, the query results with the adjusted relevancy scores in response to the query,wherein the query results are ordered by integer number keys, each key having a high segment of digits occupied by a relevancy score and a lower segment of digits occupied by a recency, such that the lower segment of digits is enabled as a score tie breaking factor.

Abstract
A flexible and extensible architecture allows for secure searching across an enterprise. Such an architecture can provide a simple Internet-like search experience to users searching secure content inside (and outside) the enterprise. The architecture allows for the crawling and searching of a variety of sources across an enterprise, regardless of whether any of these sources conform to a conventional user role model. The architecture further allows for security, recency, or other attributes to be submitted at query time, for example, in order to re-rank query results from enterprise resources. The user query also can be transformed to provide for dynamic querying that provides for a more current result list than can be obtained for static queries.
