1. A living tissue ligation device comprising:

  • a clip having a plurality of arms which close to grip living tissue;

    a clamping member having a through hole defined by an inner peripheral surface into which the clip is inserted to close the arms of the clip by urging the arms with the inner peripheral surface;

    a coupling member which is to be inserted into the clamping member and engages with the clip to allow the clip to be inserted into the clamping member; and

    a lock mechanism having a first lock portion disposed on the clip and a second lock portion disposed on the inner peripheral surface of the clamping member, the first and second lock portions being engaged with each other to prevent the clip from forwardly moving against the clamping member so that the clamping member holds the arms of the clip in a closed state when the clip engages with the clamping member;

    wherein the first lock portion includes at least one projection and the second lock portion includes a surface which interferes with the at least one projection such that the at least one projection lodges into the surface to engage the clamping member when the clip is inserted into the clamping member and wherein the location of the surface into which the at least one projection lodges is distal to a proximal end of the clamping member.
