1. An apparatus, comprising:
- a first housing defining a first chamber, a second chamber and an opening in fluid communication with the first chamber, the first chamber configured to contain a sample, a binding solution and a magnetic particle, the binding solution formulated to bind a portion of the sample to the magnetic particle;
a second housing including a side wall and a puncturable member, the side wall and the puncturable member collectively defining a first reagent chamber containing the binding solution and a second reagent chamber containing a plurality of magnetic particles, the magnetic particle being one of the plurality of magnetic particles, a portion of the second housing configured to be disposed within the first chamber of the first housing via the opening such that the first reagent chamber is in fluid communication with the first chamber when a first portion of the puncturable member is punctured and the second reagent chamber is in fluid communication with the first chamber when a second portion of the puncturable member is punctured;
a valve configured to transfer the magnetic particle and the portion of the sample from the first chamber to the second chamber while fluidically isolating the first chamber from the second chamber; and
a pump coupled to the first housing, the pump configured to mix a reagent with the portion of the sample, the pump including an actuator disposed outside of the first housing and a nozzle disposed within the second chamber.
