1. A process of producing a high strength polyethylene multi-filament yarn comprising the steps of:

  • a) forming a slurry of an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) having an initial intrinsic viscosity (IV0) at least about 10 dl/g and an antioxidant in a solvent for said UHMWPE having an atmospheric pressure boiling point at least about 180°

    C. at a temperature that is below the temperature at which the UHMWPE will dissolve in said solvent, the weight ratio of said UHMWPE to said solvent being from about 5;

    95 to about 95;

    5 and the weight ratio of said antioxidant to said solvent being from about 10 parts per million to about 1000 parts per million;

    b) feeding said slurry to an intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder wherein the screws in said twin screw extruder are comprised of multiple segments having a root diameter of Dr millimeters, an outside diameter of Do millimeters, the ratio Dr/Do is R, the rotational speed of the screws is ω

    revolutions per minute and following relationships are satisfied
