Catheter anchoring system
First Claim
1. An anchoring device for a catheter having an elongated tubular body with an adaptor having an inwardly extending member, the device comprising:
- a retainer having a channel section extending along a longitudinal axis of the retainer and configured to receive at least a portion of the adaptor of the catheter, the channel section including a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion, the second portion being disposed between the first and third portions and including at least two projections, the projections extending toward the longitudinal axis in a lateral direction and being configured to engage the inwardly extending member of the adaptor in a manner inhibiting longitudinal motion of the adaptor through the retainer, and a longitudinal slot along said retainer through which the adaptor can pass, the slot having a lateral width less than a diameter of the channel section, wherein a cross section of at least a portion of the channel section tapers along its length; and
a flexible anchor pad having an upper surface upon which the retainer is disposed.

Abstract
A catheter anchoring system is provided to securely anchor to a patient'"'"'s skin a catheter and fluid supply tube interconnection. The anchoring system comprises a retainer configured to receive a catheter adaptor in a variety of positions. The adaptor interconnects the catheter and the fluid supply tube. In one embodiment the adaptor has a radial recess that circumscribes the adaptor. The anchoring system additionally includes a flexible, adhesive anchor pad which can supports a tube clip, as well as the retainer. The retainer includes a channel that is configured to receive the adaptor in a snap-fit manner. The retainer also includes a plurality of laterally arranged projections that extend from a channel wall and into a channel. Each radial recess is sized to receive and to capture at least a portion of the projection of the retainer so as to inhibit the adaptor from moving within the channel.

12. A catheterization system comprising:
-
a catheter including an adaptor having a body with at least one inwardly extending member; and a retainer including a channel that extends about a longitudinal axis, the channel generally having a truncated cross-sectional shape with an opening that lies generally parallel to the longitudinal axis, the channel including a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion, the second portion being disposed between the first and third portions and including at least two projections, the projections extending toward the longitudinal axis in a lateral direction and being configured to engage the inwardly extending member of the adaptor in a manner inhibiting longitudinal motion of the adaptor through the retainer, and the channel extending about the longitudinal axis at least to an extent where the channel surrounds at least half of the adaptor body when the adaptor body is disposed within the channel, wherein a cross section of at least a portion of the channel tapers along its length. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)

- 21. A securement system for an elongated medical article comprising an adaptor including a body defined about a longitudinal axis, and a retainer including a first side and a second side that together define a space of sufficient size to receive a portion of the adaptor, the space including a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion, the second portion being disposed between the first and third portions and including at least two projections, the projections extending toward the longitudinal axis in a lateral direction, the retainer receiving at least a portion of the adaptor within the space, the at least two projections being configured so as to cooperate with the adaptor in a manner substantially inhibiting axial motion of the adaptor through the retainer, and wherein a cross section of at least a portion of the space tapers along its length.
