1. A system for fitting an implantable cochlear stimulator to a patient, said system comprising:

  • an interface unit configured todisplay a graphical representation of a substantially linear implant fitting line as part of a graphical user interface, said implant fitting line having a slope and a horizontal position and representing a mapping relationship between a plurality of audio frequencies and a plurality of stimulation sites within a cochlea of said patient; and

facilitate adjustment via said graphical user interface of said slope of said fitting line to substantially match a slope of an intrinsic line that represents a relationship between locations within the cochlea and a plurality of audio frequencies as actually perceived by the patient, said adjustment based on a response of said patient to a stimulus current applied by said cochlear stimulator to a subset of said stimulation sites in accordance with said mapping relationship defined by said fitting line.
