Abstract

Field emission structures comprising electric or magnetic field sources having magnitudes, polarities, and positions corresponding to a desired spatial force function where a spatial force is created based upon the relative alignment of the field emission structures The magnetic field sources may be arranged according to a code having a desired autocorrelation function. In particular, a high peak to sidelobe autocorrelation performance may be found desirable. Specific exemplary embodiments are described having non-parallel linear substructures. The non-parallel linear substructures may use the same or different codes and may have none, one, or more magnets in common. Other embodiments include substructures spaced according to a spacing code. Exemplary spacing codes include, but are not limited to Golomb ruler or Costas array. A polarity code may be applied across the substructures.

Claims

1. A system of magnet structures having a predefined force profile comprising:

a first magnet structure comprising a first magnet substructure forming a first linear array comprising a first plurality of magnets arranged according to a first pattern, said first magnet structure further comprising a second magnet substructure forming a second linear array comprising a second plurality of magnets arranged according to a second pattern; and

a complementary magnet structure comprising a first complementary magnet substructure complementary to said first plurality of magnets and a second complementary magnet substructure complementary to said second plurality of magnets;

said first pattern and said second pattern based on respective variable code having an autocorrelation function with a single maximum peak per code modulo;

said first magnet substructure being disposed non-parallel to said second magnet substructure.

2. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 1, wherein said first magnet substructure and said second magnet substructure are coplanar and mutually orthogonal.

3. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable code for said first pattern is one of the group pseudonoise code, Barker code, linear feedback shift register code, Gold code, Kasami code, and Golomb ruler code.

4. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 1, wherein the first pattern and second pattern are based on the same variable code.

5. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 4, wherein the second pattern is opposite in polarity to said first pattern.

6. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 1, wherein the first magnet substructure and said second magnet substructure share at least one magnet.

7. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 6, wherein the shared magnet is at one end of said first pattern.

8. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 1, further including one or more additional linear substructures forming a polygon;

wherein said first substructure and said second substructure form two sides of said polygon.

9. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 8, wherein said polygon is a square.

10. A system of magnet structures having a predefined force profile comprising:

a first magnet structure comprising a plurality of magnet substructures, each substructure of said plurality of magnet substructures comprising a plurality of magnetic field components arranged according to a respective pattern;

each respective pattern based on at least one respective variable code; and

a complementary magnet structure complementary to said first magnet structure;

wherein said plurality of magnet substructures are spaced according to a spacing code.

The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 10, wherein said each substructure of said plurality of magnet substructures comprises a linear array of magnetic field components disposed parallel and coplanar to each other linear array of magnetic field components of said plurality of magnet substructures.

12. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 11, wherein said spacing code is a Golomb ruler.

13. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 10, wherein said at least one respective variable code is one of the group pseudonoise code, Barker code, linear feedback shift register code, Gold code, Kasami code, and Golomb ruler code.

14. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 10, wherein said at least one respective variable code is the same for each said respective pattern.

15. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 14, wherein said at least one respective variable code is applied to each said respective pattern using the same polarity.

16. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 14, wherein said at least one respective variable code is applied to each said respective pattern in accordance with a substructure polarity pattern.

17. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 10, wherein said spacing code is a Costas Array.

18. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 17, wherein each said plurality of magnetic field components is a linear array of magnetic field components disposed parallel and coplanar to each other plurality of magnetic field components of said plurality of magnet substructures.

19. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 17, wherein each said substructure of said plurality of magnet substructures comprises a dual non-parallel linear array of said magnetic field components disposed coplanar to each other dual non-parallel linear array of magnetic field components of said plurality of magnet substructures.

20. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 17, wherein each said substructure of said plurality of magnet substructures comprises a circular array of said magnetic field components disposed coplanar to each other circular array of magnetic field components of said plurality of magnet substructures.

21. The system of magnet structures as recited in claim 17, wherein a dimension of a substructure exceeds a dimension of a row or a dimension of a column in said Costas Array.
