1. In a wireless communication system that employs a layered radio interface protocol, an apparatus comprising:
- a radio link control (RLC) layer; and
a radio resource control (RRC) layer adapted to control the transfer of data between the RLC layer and a higher layer by employing one of at least two control entities depending upon the characteristics of the data being transferred, the at least two control entities including;
a first control entity adapted to control the transfer of broadcast data; and
a second control entity adapted to control paging and notification data.

Abstract
Radio protocol for a next generation mobile communication system is disclosed including a radio link control layer for connecting to an upper layer through a service access point provided in advance and for connecting to a lower layer through a plurality of logic channels provided in advance. The radio link control layer includes at least one radio link control entity for transmission/reception of data to/from up-link or down-link according to a form of a data transmission mode.

11. In a wireless communication system that employs a layered radio interface protocol that includes a radio link control (RLC) layer and a radio resource control (RRC) layer, a method of transferring data from a higher layer to the RLC layer, the method comprising:
-
receiving data at one of a plurality of control entities in the RRC layer, from the higher layer, wherein at least one characteristic of the data determines which one of the control entities is to receive the data, the plurality of control entities including; a first control entity for broadcast data, and a second control entity for paging and notification data; and transferring the data from the one control entity to the RLC layer through a transparent mode entity (TME). - View Dependent Claims (12, 13)

14. In a wireless communication system that employs a layered radio interface protocol that includes a radio link control (RLC) layer and a radio resource control (RRC) layer, a method of transferring data from the RLC layer to a higher layer, the method comprising:
-
receiving the data at a transparent mode entity (TME) in the RRC layer from the RLC layer; transferring the data from the TME to one of a plurality of control entities in the RRC layer, wherein at least one characteristic of the data determines which one of the control entities is to receive the data, the plurality of control entities including; a first control entity for broadcast data, and a second control entity for paging and notification data; and transferring the data from the one control entity in the RRC layer to the higher layer through one of a plurality of service access points in the RRC layer. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16)
