1. A method comprising applying electrical stimulation, which is selected to alleviate pelvic pain, to at least one of an anterior cutaneous nerve branch and a lateral cutaneous nerve branch of an iliohypogastric nerve of a patient via an implanted electrical stimulation device, wherein applying electrical stimulation comprises:

  • positioning an electrode of the electrical stimulation device proximate to at least one of the anterior cutaneous nerve branch and the lateral cutaneous nerve branch after the iliohypogastric nerve has branched to form the anterior cutaneous nerve branch and the lateral cutaneous nerve branch; and

    applying electrical stimulation via the electrode.
