First Claim
1. An electrical contact switch, comprising:
- two contacts electrically connected to a power source;
a circuit electrically connected to the power source and the two contacts;
an electrically conducting object; and
a housing containing the electrically conducting object and the contacts spaced apart from each other;
wherein the housing is configured so as to allow free-floating movement of the electrically conducting object within the housing between an open position in which the electrically conducting object is not in contact with the two contacts and a closed position in which the electrically conducting object is in contact with the two contacts, the electrically conducting object can move between the open and closed positions without angular movement of the electrical contact switch, and the electrically conducting object can remain in either the open position or the closed position for an extended period of time when the electrical contact switch is not moved;
wherein movement of the electrical contact switch causes the electrically conducting object to move between the open and the closed positions and generate a change in contact position condition recognized by the circuitwherein the circuit generates a switch activation condition which exists for a preselected period of time and then ceases to exist, said switch activation condition being generated responsive to the change in contact position condition when there has been a change from the open position to the closed position; and
wherein the change in contact position condition initiates a counter that measures the preselected period of time.

Abstract
A lighting system for clothing, footwear, backpacks, and other accessories incorporates a battery, a switch, a counter circuit, a flasher and lamps or LEDs driven by the flasher. The switch has a tubular housing of electrical insulating material which may be round or square in cross section. A pair of electrical contact pins extend into the interior of the housing and are aligned longitudinally. The external ends of the contact pins are wired to the counter circuit and the battery. A free-floating contact bar of electrical conducting material normally resides on the bottom of the pins thus closing the switch and causing an input signal to the counter circuit and causing the lamps or LEDs to be illuminated momentarily. The contact pins can alternatively extend through the bottom of the housing and the contact bar may rest against the contact pins. An electrical timer circuit responsive to closing of the switch limits the flashing of the LEDs to one sequence of flashes until further movement of the switch causes it open and close again.

6. A lighting system for an article of manufacture having at least one light source for providing an illumination visible at an external surface of the article of manufacture, comprising:

a light source; a power source electrically connected to the light source; and a switch, comprised of; two contacts electrically connected to the power source; a circuit electrically connected to the power source and the two contacts; an electrically conducting object; and a housing containing the electrically conducting object and the contacts spaced apart from each other; wherein the housing is configured so as to allow free-floating movement of the electrically conducting object within the housing between an open position in which the electrically conducting object is not in contact with the two contacts and a closed position in which the electrically conducting object is in contact with the two contacts and the electrically conducting object can move between the open and closed positions without angular movement of the electrical contact switch and the electrically conducting object can remain in either the open position or the closed position for an extended period of time when the electrical contact switch is not moved; wherein movement of the switch causes the electrically conducting object to move between the open and the closed positions and generate a change in contact position condition recognized by the circuit; wherein the circuit generates a switch activation condition which exists for a preselected period of time and then ceases to exist, said switch activation condition being generated responsive to the change in contact position condition when there has been a change from the open position to the closed position; wherein the switch activation condition causes the light source to provide the illumination visible at the external surface of the article of manufacture; and wherein the change in contact position condition initiates a counter that measures the preselected period of time. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)
