1. Apparatus for retracting an organ inside the body to gain access to an adjacent tissue, the apparatus comprising:

  • an expansible cage capable of being inserted into the body through a small incision or puncture while in a collapsed state, the expansible cage comprising a plurality of first inflatable chambers extending along intersecting axes, the plurality of first inflatable chambers being interconnected such that a fluid is communicable therebetween, the plurality of first inflatable chambers supporting a second inflatable chamber defining an enclosed interior space within the expansible cage when in an expanded state, wherein the first inflatable chambers are inflatable independently of the second inflatable chamber; and

    an expansion member to selectively expand the expansible cage inside the body.
