1. A mobile telecommunications device comprising:

  • a printhead configured to print visible information on a surface of a sheet of an authorized media substrate having coded tags printed over a majority of the surface, each coded tag encoding data indicative of a location of that coded tag on the surface, an identifier of the media substrate which identifies authorization of the media substrate for use with the mobile device and a unique digital signature associated with the identifier;

    a media feed assembly for feeding the sheet of media substrate along a feed path past the printhead;

    a print engine controller for operatively controlling the printhead; and

    ,a sensor for reading the coded tags to determine whether the media substrate is authorized for use with the mobile device from the identifier and digital signature encoded by the read tags, and to determine at least one dimension of the sheet from the locations of the sensed tags on the authorized media substrate, generating a signal indicative of the at least one dimension, and transmitting the signal to the print engine controller;

    such that,the print engine controller uses the signal to initiate the printing when the sheet is at a predetermined position relative to the printhead.
