1. A method of forming a barrier region for isolating devices of an image sensor comprising a pixel array having an active array region comprising at least one active pixel cell, and a black region comprising at least one pixel cell not in the active array region, the method comprising:

  • forming a group of barrier pixel cells in the array having a common charge accumulation region of a particular conductivity type in a substrate adjacent to the at least one active pixel cell, wherein the group of barrier pixel cells is formed surrounding the at least one black region and between the black region and the active array region; and

electrically connecting the charge accumulation region to a voltage source terminal.
