Abstract

A digital broadcast receiving system and a method for controlling the same are disclosed. The method includes the steps of receiving a broadcast signal having mobile service data and main service data multiplexed therein, extracting transmission parameter channel (TPC) signaling information and fast information channel (FIC) signaling information from a data group within the received mobile service data, wherein the FIC signaling information includes a current/next (C/N) indicator, and wherein the TPC signaling information includes FIC version information, and detecting ensemble configuration information of a current MH frame.

Claims

1. A method of processing broadcast data in a broadcast transmitter, the method comprising:

performing, by a Reed Solomon (RS) encoder, RS encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding on mobile service data;

inserting the RS-encoded and CRC-encoded mobile service data in a group;

inserting fast information channel (FIC) data and transmission parameter channel (TPC) data in a signaling area of the group, wherein the FIC data includes a current and next (C/N) indicator field indicating whether the FIC data is applicable to a mobile and handheld (M/H) frame in which it appears or a next mobile and handheld (M/H) frame, and wherein the TPC data includes FIC version information for indicating an update of the FIC data; and

transmitting a broadcast signal including the data group.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the FIC data further includes cross layer information for mobile service acquisition.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein, when the C/N indicator is set to 1, the C/N indicator indicates that the FIC data is applicable to the next M/H frame.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein, when the C/N indicator is not set to 1, the C/N indicator indicates that the FIC data is applicable to the current M/H frame.

5. The method of claim 1, the FIC data further includes error indication information indicating whether the FIC data contains an error.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

inserting regularly spaced known data sequences which are known by transmitting and receiving sides in advance in the group.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein at least two of the known data sequences differ from each other in length.

8. A broadcast transmitter comprising:

an RS frame encoder for encoding means for performing RS encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding on mobile service data;

an inserting means for inserting the RS-encoded and CRC-encoded mobile service data, fast information channel (FIC) data and transmission parameter channel (TPC) data in a group, wherein the FIC data includes a current and next (C/N) indicator field indicating whether the FIC data is applicable to a mobile and handheld (M/H) frame in which it appears or a next mobile and handheld (M/H) frame, and wherein the TPC data includes FIC version information for indicating an update of the FIC data; and

a transmitting means for transmitting a broadcast signal including the group.

9. The broadcast transmitter of claim 8, wherein the FIC data further includes cross layer information for mobile service acquisition.

10. The broadcast transmitter of claim 8, wherein, when the C/N indicator is set to 1, the C/N indicator indicates that the FIC data is applicable to the next M/H frame.

11. The broadcast transmitter of claim 8, wherein, when the C/N indicator is not set to 1, the C/N indicator indicates that the FIC data is applicable to the current M/H frame.

12. The broadcast transmitter of claim 8, the FIC data further includes error indication information indicating whether the FIC data contains an error.

13. The broadcast transmitter of claim 8, wherein the inserting means further inserts regularly spaced known data sequences in the group.
