1. In a wireless communications device, a wireless communications transceiver, comprising:

  • a receiver;

    a local oscillator;

    a tunable oscillator that comprises a tuning input;

    a mixer that comprises a first input, a second input and an output, the first input of the mixer being operatively coupled to the tunable oscillator, the second input of the mixer being operatively coupled to the local oscillator; and

    a phase detector that comprises a first input, a second input and an output, the first input of the phase detector being operatively coupled to the output of the mixer, the output of the phase detector being operatively coupled to the tuning input,wherein the wireless communications device supports spread spectrum modulation and supports radio frequency (RF) wireless communications, andwherein at least the receiver, the mixer and the phase detector are integrated on an integrated circuit chip.
