1. A computer implemented method, comprising:

  • receiving user input to create a physical element in a physical representation of elements that is stored in a computer aided design (CAD) model;

    in response to receiving, generating the physical element in the physical representation of elements, and generating a corresponding analytical element in an analytical representation of elements that is stored in the CAD model;

    providing the analytical representation to a first analysis program for application of one or more simulated loads to the analytical representation; and

    receiving from the first analysis program (1) one or more displacements, wherein the one or more displacements each represent one or more changes to a size or a location of the analytical element in the analytical representation of elements as a result of the application of one or more simulated loads to the analytical representation by the first analysis program, and (2) load information specifying the simulated loads applied by the first analysis program;

    modifying the analytical representation of elements that is stored in the CAD model based on the received displacements and storing the modified analytical representation of elements as the analytical representation of elements in the CAD model;

    storing in the CAD model the received load information specifying the simulated loads applied by the first analysis program;

    providing the modified analytical representation that is stored in the CAD model to a second analysis program receiving from the second analysis program second load information specifying simulated loads applied by the second analysis program; and

    storing in the CAD model the second load information specifying the simulated loads applied by the second analysis program so that the CAD model includes a history of loads applied by the first and second analysis programs.
