1. A method for detecting in a liquid sample delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or one or more of THC and its metabolites 11-nor-9-carboxy-delta-9-THC (THC-COOH) and 11-hydroxy-delta-9-THC (THC-OH), which comprises:

  • (a) contacting said sample with (i) a 5-pentylresorcinol/macromolecular carrier conjugate wherein 5-pentylresorcinol is conjugated via a hydroxyl group or a derivative thereof on its benzene ring to the carrier and (ii) an antibody capable of binding both THC and said conjugate; and

    (b) determining whether binding of said antibody to said conjugate is reduced in the presence of said sample, wherein said antibody may exhibit cross-reactivity with said metabolites and reduction of the binding of said antibody to said conjugate is indicative of the presence of THC or the presence of one or more of THC, THC-COOH and THC-OH.
