Abstract

The described method and apparatus pertains namely to the HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) industry, though its many functions extend into any and all forms of air-fluid movement, metering, distribution, and containment. Essentially, the scope of operation of the method and apparatus encompasses all forms of scientific and engineering measurement dealing with fluid dynamics, fluid statics, fluid mechanics, thermal dynamics, and mechanical engineering as they pertain to precise, articulated control of air-fluid distribution and delivery. The described method and apparatus offers complete, comprehensive, and correct utilization of air-fluid movers and terminal devices under unique sensor logic control, from initial lab testing stages through to equipment cataloguing, selection, design and construction of any and all air-fluid distribution systems in entirety, whereas previously there was no such cohesive, total and terminal method of control for these systems or their components.

Claims

1. A fully integrated, packaged air handling system for air handling, control, and monitoring of constant and variable volume systems comprising

a mixing box housing fitted effectively upstream of a primary or secondary mover with variable terminal device inlets for OA/RA (Outdoor Air/Return Air) mixed airflow;

a means of determining OA/RA mixed air quantity and OA/RA mixed airflow enthalpy;

a means of controlling OA/RA mixed air quantity and OA/RA mixed airflow enthalpy;

a main damper housing fitted effectively downstream of a primary or secondary mover;

a means of main damper control situated downstream of the mover(s);

a primary and secondary mover of axial, radial, or centrifugal type arranged in-line or parallel;

a plurality of terminal control dampers situated per zone of air distribution served by said air handling system;

a means of terminal damper control per zone of air distribution served by said air handling system;

a heat exchanger or energy recovery medium;

a means of monitoring and controlling heat exchange and mass flow rate;

a means of monitoring and controlling a point of system operation through interpolated or extrapolated data;

a means of monitoring and controlling a point of sub-system operation through interpolated or extrapolated data;

a means for determining air changes;

a means for determining volume of a vessel;

a means for leakage testing;

and a housing frame enveloping all components.

2. A control system, comprising the fully integrated, packaged air handling system of claim 1, the control system maintaining optimal heat exchange ratio including immersion elements of humidifying and dehumidifying entering air-fluid upstream of said heat exchanger for synchronizing the mass flow rate of air-fluids passing a heat exchange medium by adjusting the lower air or fluid stream to approach the mass flow and enthalpy potential of the higher air or fluid stream through either volumetric flow or density correction, per BTUH, to approach 100% effectiveness of sensible, latent, or total heat;

maintaining a sensible heat transfer differential across the heat exchange medium of at least 10 or greater.

A control system, comprising the fully integrated, packaged air handling system of claim 1, the control system maintaining optimal heat exchange ratio including immersion elements of ionizing and de-ionizing entering air-fluid upstream of said heat exchanger for synchronizing the mass flow rate of air-fluids passing a heat exchange medium by adjusting the lower air or fluid stream to approach the mass flow and enthalpy potential of the higher air or fluid stream through either volumetric flow or density correction, per BTUH, to approach 100% effectiveness of sensible, latent, or total heat;

maintaining a sensible heat transfer differential across the heat exchange medium of at least 10 or greater.

The control system of claim 2 or 3, comprising the fully integrated, packaged air handling system of claim 1, each air-fluid stream further containing a mover for delivering air-fluid flow to the said heat exchange medium upstream or downstream of the immersion elements, where said mover is equipped with means for modulating volumetric flow and where said mover is equipped with means for adjusting flow-pressure application according to either flow as corrected for volume, or pressure as corrected for density.
