An illumination device having at least one light-emitting diode and a heat sink for the purpose of cooling the at least one light-emitting diode, wherein said heat sink has cooling ribs and at least one cutout, in which a mounting plate is arranged which is fitted with electrical components used for operating said at least one light-emitting diode, wherein said at least one cutout and said mounting plate are arranged in the region of the cooling ribs, and wherein said heat sink is used both for cooling the at least one light-emitting diode and for cooling the electrical components.
