Abstract

An improved field emission system and method is provided that involves field emission structures having electric or magnetic field sources. The magnitudes, polarities, and positions of the magnetic or electric field sources are configured to have desirable correlation properties, which may be in accordance with a code. The correlation properties correspond to a desired spatial force function where spatial forces between field emission structures correspond to relative alignment, separation distance, and the spatial force function.

Claims

1. A system for orienting a plurality of magnetic sources, said system comprising:

at least one first magnetic source of said plurality of magnetic sources having a first orientation; and

at least one second magnetic source of said plurality of magnetic sources having a second orientation whereby at least one pole of said at least one first magnetic source interacts with at least one pole of said at least one second magnetic source, said first orientation being relative to said second orientation such that said at least one pole of said at least one first magnetic source interact with said at least one pole of said at least one second magnetic source that has the same polarity as said at least one pole of said at least one first magnetic source, said first orientation and said second orientation being in accordance with a desired spatial force function, said spatial force function being in accordance with a code, said code corresponding to a code modulo of said plurality of magnetic sources and an additional code modulo of an additional plurality of magnetic sources, said code defining a peak spatial force corresponding to substantial alignment of said code modulo of said plurality of magnetic sources with said additional code modulo of said additional plurality of magnetic sources, said code also defining a plurality of off peak spatial forces corresponding to a plurality of different misalignments of said code modulo of said plurality of magnetic sources and said additional code modulo of said additional plurality of magnetic sources, said plurality of off peak spatial forces having a largest off peak spatial force, said largest off peak spatial force being less than half of said peak spatial force.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

at least one holding mechanism, said at least one holding mechanism providing a holding force sufficient to maintain the first orientation of said at least one first magnetic source and the second orientation of said at least one second magnetic source.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein said at least one holding mechanism comprises at least one of a ferromagnetic material, an antiferromagnetic material, a support frame, a substrate, a hole, a screw, a nut, a bolt;

, an adhesive, a fixative, or threads.

The system of claim 1, wherein at least one of said first magnetic source or said a least one second magnetic source comprises one of a permanent magnet, an electromagnet, an electret, a magnetized ferromagnetic material, a portion of a magnetized ferromagnetic material, a magnetized antiferromagnetic material, a portion of a magnetized antiferromagnetic material, a soft magnetic material, or a superconductive magnetic material.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

said additional plurality of magnetic sources, said additional plurality of magnetic sources comprising;

at least one third magnetic source of said additional plurality of magnetic sources having said first orientation; and

at least one fourth magnetic source of said plurality of additional magnetic sources having a second orientation whereby at least one pole of said at least one third magnetic source interacts with at least one pole of said at least one fourth magnetic source, said first orientation being unnatural to said second orientation such that said at least one pole of said at least one third magnetic source does not alternate with said at least one pole of said at least one fourth magnetic source, said first orientation and said second orientation being in accordance with said desired spatial force function.

The system claim 5, wherein said additional plurality of magnetic sources is oriented to be the mirror image of said plurality of magnetic sources such that the plurality of magnetic sources and the additional plurality of magnetic sources can be aligned to produce a peak spatial attraction function.

7. The system claim 5, wherein said additional plurality of magnetic sources is oriented the same as said plurality of magnetic sources such that the plurality of magnetic sources and the additional plurality of magnetic sources can be aligned to produce a peak spatial repelling function.

The system of claim 1, wherein said code comprises one of a Barker code, a Gold code, a Kasami sequence, a hyperbolic congruential code, a quadratic congruential code, a linear congruential code, a Welch-Costas array code, a Golumb-Costas array code, a pseudorandom code, a chaotic code, an Optimal Golomb Ruler code, a deterministic code, or a designed code.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein said code comprises a one dimensional code, a two dimensional code, a three dimensional code, or a four dimensional code.

10. A method for orienting a plurality of magnetic sources, said method comprising the steps of:

providing at least one first magnetic source of said plurality of magnetic sources to have a first orientation; and

providing at least one second magnetic source of said plurality of magnetic sources to have a second orientation whereby at least one pole of said at least one first magnetic source interacts with at least one pole of said at least one second magnetic source, said first orientation being relative to said second orientation such that said at least one pole of said at least one first magnetic source interacts with said at least one pole of said at least one second magnetic source that has the same polarity as said at least one pole of said at least one first magnetic source, said first orientation and said second orientation being in accordance with a desired spatial force function, said spatial force function being in accordance with a code, said code corresponding to a code modulo of said plurality of magnetic sources and an additional code modulo of an additional plurality of magnetic sources, said code defining a peak spatial force corresponding to substantial alignment of said code modulo of said plurality of magnetic sources with said additional code modulo of said additional plurality of magnetic sources, said code also defining a plurality of off peak spatial forces corresponding to a plurality of different misalignments of said code modulo of said plurality of magnetic sources and said additional code modulo of said additional plurality of magnetic sources, said plurality of off peak spatial forces having a largest off peak spatial force, said largest off peak spatial force being less than half of said peak spatial force.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

providing at least one holding force sufficient to maintain the first orientation of said at least one first magnetic source and the second orientation of said at least one second magnetic source.

The method of claim 10, wherein at least one of said first magnetic source or said a least one second magnetic source comprises one of a permanent magnet, an electromagnet, an electret, a magnetized ferromagnetic material, a portion of a magnetized ferromagnetic material, a magnetized antiferromagnetic material, a portion of a magnetized antiferromagnetic material, a soft magnetic material, or a superconductive magnetic material.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

providing said additional plurality of magnetic sources to be the mirror image of said plurality of magnetic sources such that the plurality of magnetic sources and the additional plurality of magnetic sources can be aligned to produce a peak spatial attraction function.

14. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

providing said additional plurality of magnetic sources the same as said plurality of magnetic sources such that the plurality of magnetic sources and the additional plurality of magnetic sources can be aligned to produce a peak spatial repelling function.

The method of claim 10, wherein said code comprises one of a Barker code, a Gold code, a Kasami sequence, a hyperbolic congruential code, a quadratic congruential code, a linear congruential code, a Welch-Costas array code, a Golumb-Costas array code, a pseudorandom code, a chaotic code, an Optimal Golomb Ruler code, a deterministic code, or a designed code.

16. The method of claim 10, wherein said code comprises a one dimensional code, a two dimensional code, a three dimensional code, or a four dimensional code.
