1. A method for transmitting and receiving digital information, comprising the steps of:

  • transmitting digital information including digital video information and digital audio information of a program to a transmission path; and

    receiving the digital information from the transmission path;

    wherein the steps of transmitting includes;

    compressing the digital information including bit-compressing digital video information by a first compression method and bit-compressing the digital audio information by a second compression method which is different from the first compression method, and time-compressing the digital video information and the digital audio information so that the digital video information and the digital audio information are transmittable to the transmission path in a time shorter than a predetermined time of the program;

    adding a parity signal to the digital information for detecting an error of the digital information, the error being an error which occurs in the transmission path and not in a recording processing of the digital information;

    phase shift key modulating the compressed digital information to which the parity signal has been added; and

    transmitting the modulated compressed digital information to the transmission path;

    wherein the step of receiving includes;

    receiving the modulated compressed digital information from the transmission path including the compressed digital video information and the compressed digital audio information from the transmission path;

    demodulating the received compressed digital information corresponding to the phase shift key modulation;

    detecting an error of the demodulated compressed digital information by use of the parity signal, the error being the error occurring in the transmission path and not in the recording process of the digital information; and

    expanding the demodulated and error-detected compressed digital information, the expanding including bit-expanding the compressed digital video information corresponding to the first compression method and bit-expanding the compressed digital audio information corresponding to the second compression method;

    wherein a transmission rate of the digital information transmitted to the transmission path is lower than that of the digital information inputted for compression.
