Abstract

The recording medium includes a navigation area storing navigation control information for managing the reproduction of at least video data from the recording medium. The navigation area, according to one embodiment, stores at least one navigation control object that includes an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation control object and a navigation direction number field indicating a number of navigation directions. Each navigation control object includes at least one navigation direction.

Claims

1. An optical disc having a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data, comprising:

a data area storing a stream file including the video data;

a playlist file area storing at least one playlist file including at least one playitem, the playitem identifying a playing interval in a clip of the video data; and

a navigation area storing a navigation file for navigation control of the video data, separate from the stream file and the playlist file, the navigation file including a navigation control object, the navigation control object having an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation control object and at least one navigation item indicating the playlist file.

2. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the navigation item indicates a single playlist file associated with one reproduction path to reproduce.

3. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the navigation control object is associated with a single title of the video data stored in the data area.

4. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the navigation control object further includes a navigation item number field indicating the number of navigation items, the navigation control object including at least one navigation item.

13. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether the navigation control object is resumable when a user operation is executed.

14. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether a title search operation is permitted in the navigation control object.

5. A method of recording a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data on a recording medium, comprising:

recording a stream file including the video data in a data area of the recording medium;

recording at least one playlist file including at least one playitem in a playlist file area of the recording medium, the playitem identifying a playing interval in a clip of the video data; and

recording a navigation file including a navigation control object in a navigation area of the recording medium, the navigation file being separate from the stream file and the playlist file, the navigation control object having an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation control object and at least one navigation item indicating the playlist file.

9. The method of claim 5, wherein the navigation item indicates a single playlist file associated with one reproduction path to reproduce.

15. The method of claim 5, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether the navigation control object is resumable when a user operation is executed.

16. The method of claim 5, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether a title search operation is permitted in the navigation control object.

6. A method of reproducing a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data recorded on a recording medium, comprising:

reproducing a navigation file for navigation control of the video data, the navigation file including recorded in a navigation area of the recording medium, the navigation file including a navigation control object, the navigation control object having an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation control object and at least one navigation item indicating the playlist file;

reproducing the playlist file indicated by the navigation item from a playlist file area of the recording medium, the playlist file including at least one playitem, the playitem identifying a playing interval in a clip of the video data; and

reproducing a stream file including the video data identified by the playitem from a data area of the recording medium the navigation file being separate from the stream file and the playlist file.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein the navigation item indicates a single playlist file associated with one reproduction path to reproduce.

17. The method of claim 6, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether the navigation control object is resumable when a user operation is executed.

18. The method of claim 6, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether a title search operation is permitted in the navigation control object.

7. An apparatus for recording a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data recorded on a recording medium, comprising:

a recording device configured to record a stream file including the video data in a data area of the recording medium; and

a controller configured to control the recording device to record the stream file in a data area of the recording medium, the controller being configured to control the recording device to record a navigation file for navigation control of the video data, the navigation file including a navigation control object in a navigation area of the recording medium, the navigation control object having an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation control object and at least one navigation item indicating the playlist file, the controller being configured to control the recording device to record at least one playlist file including at least one playitem in a playlist file area of the recording medium, the navigation file being separate from the stream file and the playlist file, the playitem identifying a playing interval in a clip of the video data.

11. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the navigation item indicates a single playlist file associated with one reproduction path to reproduce.

19. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether the navigation control object is resumable when a user operation is executed.

20. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether a title search operation is permitted in the navigation control.

21. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising an encoder configured to encode the video data.

22. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the recording device is a pickup.

8. An apparatus for reproducing a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data from a recording medium, comprising:

a reproducing device configured to reproduce a stream file including the video data from a data area of the recording medium; and

a controller configured to control the reproducing device to reproduce a navigation file for navigation control of the video data, the navigation file including a navigation control object recorded in at least one navigation area of the recording medium, the navigation control object having an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation control object and at least one navigation item indicating the playlist file, the controller being configured to reproduce the playlist file indicated by the navigation item from a playlist file area of the recording medium, the playlist file including at least one playitem, the playitem identifying a playing interval in a clip of the video data and to reproduce the video data identified by the playitem from a data area of the recording medium the navigation file being separate from the stream file and the playlist file.

12. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the navigation item indicates a single playlist file associated with one reproduction path to reproduce.

23. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the attribute field includes information for indicating whether the navigation control object is resumable when a user operation is executed.

24. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the attribute field inlcudes information for indicating whether a title search operation is permitted in the navigation control object.

25. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the reproducing device is a pickup.
