1. An analyte sensor system, comprising:
- a substrate;
a first electrode disposed on a first surface of the substrate;
a second electrode disposed on a second surface of the substrate; and
a transmitter unit configured for electrical communication with one or more of the first and second electrodes, and including a housing having a plurality of electrical contacts disposed thereon and configured for physical contact with a skin surface;
wherein the plurality of electrical contacts are electrically coupled such that when the transmitter is positioned on the skin surface, one or more of the plurality of electrical contacts provide continuous electrical contact between the transmitter and the skin surface during a time period when at least a portion of the first electrode and the second electrodes are subcutaneously positioned under the skin surface.

14. A method, comprising:

subcutaneously positioning at least a portion of an analyte sensor including a first electrode disposed on a first surface of a substrate and a second electrode disposed on a second surface of the substrate such that the portion of the analyte sensor is in fluid contact with an analyte under a skin surface; and positioning a transmitter unit including a housing on the skin surface such that the transmitter unit is in electrical contact with the analyte sensor, the transmitter unit housing including a plurality of electrical contacts configured for contacting the skin surface, wherein at least one of the plurality of electrical contacts is in physical contact with the skin surface; wherein the plurality of electrical contacts are electrically coupled and provide continuous electrical contact with the skin surface during a time period when the analyte sensor is in fluid contact with an interstitial fluid. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24)
