1. A system for controlling and effecting activation of operating room equipment disposed outside a sterile field during an electrosurgical procedure inside the sterile field, the system comprising:

  • an electrosurgical generator configured to deliver energy to the sterile field and including a controller;

    the controller being in electrical communication with and configured to control the electrosurgical generator and at least one operating room device disposed outside the sterile field to produce an effect outside the sterile field; and

    a handpiece having a housing and a cable extending from the housing providing electrical connection to the controller, the handpiece further includes first controls for controlling the generator and second controls for controlling and effecting activation and adjustment of at least one operating room device disposed outside the sterile field to produce an effect outside the sterile field, including;

    activation and adjustment of an operating room bed;

    activation and adjustment of an operating room light source; and

    activation and adjustment of an insufflation device;

    wherein each of the first and second controls is in direct electrical communication with the controller, wherein the second controls include at least one sliding controller for activating and adjusting the at least one operating room device.
