1. A device-implemented method of providing quality of service in an IP telephony session between a calling party and a called party, the method comprising:

  • assigning, using a session initiated protocol (SIP) server, and at a first device-implemented access control manager, a temporary IP proxy address to the called party the first device-implemented access control manager to couple an IP network to a second network at a first access point;

    assigning, using the SIP server, and at a second device-implemented access control manager, a temporary IP proxy address to the calling party, the second device-implemented access control manager to couple the IP network to the second network at a second access point;

    transporting IP media traffic, during the session, between the calling party and the first device-implemented access control manager; and

    transporting IP media traffic, during the session, between the called party and the second device-implemented access control manager.
