1. An optoelectronic device, the optoelectronic device comprising:

  • an optical detector configured and arranged to receive and detect an incoming light beam by way of an optical fiber, the incoming light beam including at least a first wavelength and/or range of wavelengths;

    an optical transmitter configured and arranged to transmit an outgoing light beam by way of the optical fiber, wherein the outgoing light beam includes a second wavelength and/or range of wavelengths, the optical detector comprising one or more materials that are optically unresponsive with respect to at least a portion of the outgoing light beam so that an optical signal path for the outgoing light beam is defined that extends from the optical transmitter through the optical detector and the optical detector and the optical transmitter being stacked one on top of the other and arranged so that the incoming light beam and outgoing light beam are received and transmitted, respectively, through a top surface of the optical detector;

    a first substrate stacked together with the optical detector and optical transmitter such that the optical transmitter is stacked between the first substrate and the optical detector;

    a second substrate positioned on the top surface of the optical detector such that the incoming light beam and the outgoing light beam must pass through the second substrate; and

    a controller situated on the second substrate and in electrical communication with the optical detector and/or the optical transmitter, the controller being situated on a side of the second substrate that faces the top surface of the optical detector.
