Annular adhesive structure
First Claim
1. An assembly for joining tissue portions, comprising:
- an anvil assembly and a body portion juxtaposed with respect to one another along a shaft, the shaft being retractable so as to approximate the anvil assembly and body portion with respect to one another; and
an applicator disposed between the body portion and anvil assembly, the applicator including a manifold and a sleeve fixedly supported on the shaft wherein a fluid wound treatment material is retained within and dispensed from the sleeve, the manifold having channels arranged for dispensing the fluid wound treatment material therefrom onto an interface between the tissue portions disposed between the anvil assembly and the body portion, wherein each of the channels is in fluid communication with the sleeve and an ampoule disposed in the sleeve; and
,wherein the shaft and the sleeve form a plunger for compressing the ampoule and dispensing the fluid wound treatment material.

Abstract
An assembly for joining tissue is provided and includes an anvil assembly and a body portion juxtaposed with respect to one another along a shaft and arranged so as to be approximated with respect to one another; and an applicator supported on the anvil assembly and configured for retaining a wound treatment material therein and for dispensing the wound treatment material therefrom. A method for joining tissue is provided and includes the steps of dispensing the wound treatment material from the applicator so as to distribute wound treatment material onto at least one of a first tissue section and a second tissue section; and approximating the anvil assembly and the body portion to one another so that the first tissue section and the second tissue section are in contact with one another with the dispensed wound treatment material interposed there between.
