1. An article for conveying visually-perceivable color effects to a substrate surface containing a dye or pigment, said article comprising:

  • a sheet of visually-perceivable color effects, said sheet having two surfaces;

    a bonding agent disposed on one surface of said sheet and capable of bonding said sheet to the substrate surface, said bonding agent having an outer surface for contacting said substrate surface;

    a releasable liner removably attached to the surface of said sheet opposite said bonding agent; and

    a barrier layer effective for reducing transfer of the dye or pigment from the substrate surface to said sheet, wherein said barrier layer is positioned between the outer surface of said bonding agent and the surface of said sheet to which said releasable liner is attached, wherein said barrier layer consists essentially of nanocomposites, and wherein said sheet and bonding agent have a combined thickness of less than 3 mils.
