1. A method of operating a wireless communications device, the method comprising:

  • predicting an application expected to be used based on a user'"'"'s interaction with the wireless communications device, where predicting the application expected to be used comprises;

    determining a current status of a user interface of the wireless communications device based on the user interaction, andpredicting the application expected to be used based on the determined current status of the user interface;

    determining a preferred radio access technology (RAT) based on the predicted application;

    determining whether the wireless communications device is currently utilizing the determined preferred RAT as a current RAT; and

    performing one of;

    ensuring that the wireless communications device continues to utilize the current RAT when the determined preferred RAT corresponds to the current RAT, orsearching for the determined preferred RAT when the current RAT does not correspond to the determined preferred RAT and selecting the determined preferred RAT, based on the searching, when the determined preferred RAT is found.
