Body-space drainage-tube debris removal
First Claim
1. A debris-removal system comprising:
- a body tube having a body tube proximal end, a body tube distal end, and a body tube lumen; and
a cleaning member;
wherein the cleaning member is adapted for manipulation within the body tube for dislodging and/or breaking up debris within the body tube;
the cleaning member comprising a flexible filament;
the flexible filament consisting of a tip having a straight cross-section that is obliquely angled comprising a straight and obliquely angular tip with respect to a longitudinal axis of the flexible filament, andwherein the cleaning member is of a length such that the tip cannot exit the body tube distal end.

Abstract
In accordance with embodiments of the present invention, a debris removal system is provided for a body-space drainage system having one or more body tubes with a body tube lumen disposed therein. The debris-removal system comprises a cleaning member, a collapsible sheath, and a coupler. The cleaning member is an elongated member wherein the distal end is adapted to enter the body tube lumen at or near the body-tube proximal end and adapted to be advanced distally at least a portion of a length of the body tube lumen. The collapsible sheath is adapted to contain at least a portion of the cleaning member that is not contained within the body tube lumen. The collapsible sheath is flexible so as to allow external digital manipulation of the cleaning member proximal end within of the collapsible sheath, while retaining the sterile environment of the body-space drainage system.

8. A debris-removal system comprising:
-
a body tube having a body tube proximal end, a body tube distal end, and a body tube lumen; a cleaning member comprising a tubular filament comprising a tubular filament proximal end, a tubular filament distal end and a tubular filament lumen defining a flow path therebetween, the tubular filament being sufficiently flexible to traverse curvature of the body tube lumen but being sufficiently rigid so as to advance through the body tube lumen by pushing from the proximal end for dislodging and/or breaking up debris within the body tube lumen, the tubular filament distal end consisting of a tip having a straight cross-section that is obliquely angled with respect to a longitudinal axis of the flexible filament; a suction source coupled to said body tube proximal end and being effective to draw a vacuum from the body tube distal end through said body tube around said cleaning member inserted therein; a fluid source coupled to and in fluid communication with said tubular filament lumen via said tubular filament proximal end; and a fluid supplied from said fluid source and being expelled into said body tube lumen from said filament distal end, the fluid comprising a therapeutic agent selected from the group consisting of antibiotic agents and anti-neoplastic agents, wherein the cleaning member is adapted for manipulation within the body tube for dislodging and/or breaking up debris within the body tube; and
wherein during operation said suction source can be operated to draw said vacuum around said cleaning member simultaneously with the delivery of said fluid through said tubular filament lumen to be expelled from the tubular filament distal end, andwherein the cleaning member is of a length such that the tubular filament distal end cannot exit the body tube distal end. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)
